Future Technology: How We’ll Get Around in the Next Decade
by Emily Desai on December 14, 2011We can’t be the only ones who have dreamed about the days that jetpacks will scoot us effortlessly around our neighborhoods and workplaces, but over and under the waves on a sunny afternoon- who knew? Judy Jetson was hip to the latest trends, and today we will take a look at what is up and coming at the intersection of future technology and transportation.
Thanks to the awesome folks at Core 77, we have some great vehicles to share. Can we start with this amazing underwater jet pack? Who doesn’t want to swim like a dolphin (okay, there are probably a couple of you out there). For the price of a used compact car, you can have this amazing, albeit not totally practical, mode of aquatic transportation. Getting from boat to boat at Cannes will be so much easier, and embarrassing the kids at the beach- done!
Up next, we have the Kobot, a personal transporter right out of an anime cartoon. These have been circling around for awhile, the idea being that these are perfect for your “around town” functions. While this could totally take off in Tokyo, here in LA it would be slightly more complicated. Not too many single occupant personal transporters on the freeways around here. Someday?
We are still waiting for some hovercraft magic. There are some companies around that offer them, but until they look a bit less like inflatable boats, we’ll stay on the sidelines. Of course, there is the Airboard Levetating Hover Scooter, and the very cool Solowheel. We must confess, when you go looking for crazy future transportation, that’s what you find. So keep the dream alive- everyday jet packs can’t be too far away!
Getting to work never looked so dangerous. Do you know of some other amazing future technology that will aid us in our everyday lives? Share in the comments below.
